Health Research
Description
Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) is an important aspect of medicine that have to be taught to residents, trainers and healthcare professionals, in order to deliver better quality care to their patients. This physical hands-on workshop is designed to equip the target group with the basics of this aspect of medicine.

- Concept of EBM, strength of evidence, and related appraisal tools
- Searching the literature
- Appraising observational studies
- Appraising interventional studies
General objectives
At the end of this workshop, participants will be:
- Familiar with the concept of EBM, strength of evidence, and related appraisal tools
- Able to effectively search the literature in a specific topic
- Able to critically appraise observational studies
- Able to critically appraise interventional studies
- Able to critically appraise diagnostic accuracy studies
- Able critically appraise systematic review/meta-analysis
Target Audience:
OMSB Residents and trainers. Also, OMSB senior staff and other health professionals may be considered. Around 20 seats will be available
Time:
This workshop is usually organized twice a year between April and November. However, the time may be changed depending on the number of registered participants, and logistics. Exact dates are announced once finalized.
Duration:
This physical workshop is conducted over 1-full day duration (8:00 am – 3:15 pm)

Research Methodology I is an online course that includes two main parts; online modules and a virtual discussion meeting. The modules part is a 4-5-hour online task aims to simplify the initial steps in research. It is designed for postgraduate healthcare professionals who are considered as beginners in research. However, other candidates may enroll in this course as well.
Online part outlines
Module 1: Importance and types of health-related research.
Module 2: Introduction to research question, study objectives & hypothesis.

The Virtual discussion meeting: this is a three-hour online meeting designed for the three Methodology courses (Research Methodology I, II, & III) in which participants are guided to apply the knowledge gained from the modules of the three courses in their research idea/projects. The outlines of this virtual session are given in Research Methodology course III.
Target Audience & registration:
Mainly OMSB Residents
in early residency (preferably R1) who have not gotten ethical approval yet. OMSB trainers & Other health professionals may also be considered and can register thru the OMSB e-platform, or contacting the Research Section at OMSB (research@omsb.org).
Time:
This
course is organized in every block (rotation) across the year. The
online modules must be finished within the first week of each block, and
the virtual discussion is conducted in the forth week within the same
block. OMSB residents are enrolled in this workshop during their first research
block according to their master rotation. Residents who are assigned
late research block can contact the OMSB research section to undertake
this workshop during R1. OMSB trainers and other health

In addition other health professionals should equip themselves with research knowledge and skills including basics of bio-statistics & basic statistical testing. In order to achieve that, this online workshop is intended to introduce the common principles of bio-statistics and statistical testing.

OMSB residents are enrolled in this workshop during their second research block according to their master rotation. However, interested residents may undertake this course earlier, however, for that they have to contact the OMSB Research Section at (research@omsb.org). As a responsibility of the OMSB to support health professionals in research, the OMSB research section has introduced this Blended course with two main component; an online workshop and a hands-on physical workshop using IBM SPSS Statistics software.

management, common descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate analysis.

Data entry is one of the most important aspects of a research process. Data can be entered directly from the data collection tool into an excel sheet or statistical analysis program including SPSS. However, these are highly prone to entry errors. The best practice for entering data is to use data entry and management software which increases the quality of data. There are various software programs available for data entry and management. Epi-Data program is widely used by researchers' In order to train the researchers, OMSB Research section would like to conduct this hands-on physical workshop using Epi-Data software.
Objectives:
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to design customized data entry program for their research projects using Epi-Data software.Target Audience & registration:

Description
Research training is a fundamental part in post graduate medical education nowadays. However, good quality supervision for resident research is crucial to yield high quality research projects. Therefore, this physical Research Supervision Workshop is important for trainers to increase their skills related to research methods and research supervision, which in turn increases residents’ chance for effective research supervision.

- Able to identify needed knowledge and skills as a research supervisor
- Able to identify sources of research training and other resources

This workshop is expected to be held physically in September-October every year. However, this date may be changed depending on the number of registered participants.

This physical workshop is conducted over 1-full day duration (7:30 am – 2:30 pm)

Gaining
basic knowledge and skills in manuscript writing is crucial to produce
good quality
manuscripts for publication. The Research Section would like to conduct
this blended course to help the OMSB residents & trainers and other
health professionals to turn
their research reports into scientific papers that would have good
chance for
publication in peer reviewed journals. the course includes two parts; an
online workshop and a hands-on physical workshop.
Online workshop Outline:
Module 1: Scientific writing
Module 2: Writing the introduction and methods sections
Module 3: Writing result section
Module 4: Writing the discussion and conclusion sections
Module 5: Writing the abstract and title
The outlines of the physical workshop is similar to the online workshop, however in the physical workshop, participants' own manuscripts are discussed.

Mainly OMSB Residents who presented their projects at the last OMSB Annual Research Forum. OMSB trainers & other Healthcare professionals maybe considered. Please, contact the Research Section for registration (research@omsb.org).

The hands-on physical workshop is 1-full day (7:30 am - 4:14 pm) activity. The online workshop will be made open to participants two months prior to the physical workshop (as described above). The online modules are 4-5 hours task and have to be completed in the first two weeks of the course. The manuscript preparation have to be started even prior to the course, and continued across the two months period.
