Description*Primary care is responsible for the majority of antibiotic use by human beings. *Many clinicians and patients do not see antibiotic resistance as a reason to refrain from antibiotic use. This is influenced by: *Patients expectations *lack of awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR)Objectives*Learn some principles of antimicrobial use. *Identify factors influencing selection of appropriate and optimal therapy. *Recognize different types of adverse effects of antimicrobial agents and how to modify antimicrobial therapy as appropriate. * Identify clinical scenarios in which use of antimicrobial agents is inappropriate. *Identify key factors in reducing antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
